Biologics Research Center (BRC) in Novartis builds the biologics pipeline in collaboration with Disease Areas (DA) to create innovative medicines to improve patients’ lives. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the Biologics Engineering and Bioconjugation (BEC) unit within BRC at Cambridge site. The BEC unit drives a diverse portfolio of biologics drug discovery programs that cover various biologics modalities, such as multi-specific antibodies, non-antibody proteins, ADC and AOC therapies through knowledge-based and structure-based rational design. In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn new and cutting-edge technologies and grow your career in Novartis and in the pharmaceutical industry.

This role will help to advance our diverse programs in BRC biologics pipeline and accelerate the discovery process. This associate will mainly work in the lab to support all projects cross the portfolio in the protein engineering function by contributing to protein expression, purification, characterization, and constructs design.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support senior lab members in the lab to contribute to pipeline and exploratory projects.
  • Conduct protein expression, purification and characterization; May need to design constructs.
  • Perform routine cell-based assays for engineered biologics candidates screening.
  • Implement experimental steps and existing lab techniques according to established laboratory protocols with input from senior lab members or manager.
  • Summarize of raw data, report experimental details, and provide basic data analysis.
  • Present data and findings in internal project meetings.
  • Maintain excellent notebook record and comply company documentation compliance. 

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related degree with at least 1 year of post educational experience in academia or industry OR Masters degree with experience in academia or industry.
  • Knowledge with recombinant protein expression techniques. Experience in mammalian cells or bacterial expression system is preferred
  • Knowledge with affinity and SEC protein purification techniques are required. IEX and HIC are plus.
  • Knowledge with basic protein characterization techniques, such as protein concentration measurement, SDS-PAGE and Western blot.
  • Excellent team player with collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills to work with cross functional teams
  • Is curious about the drug discovery process with an eager to learn attitude.
  • Detailed orientated and well organized.

Desired:

  • Experience in using molecular biology techniques and software, such as SnapGene for construct design and DNA sequence analysis is a plus
  • Experience with antibody is highly desirable.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $77,000-$143,000/year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
